Technical visit to pedestrian connectivity facilities works phase 1 for the development of the Anderson Road Quarry site
By Mr CHAN Ho Shing

The GE Division organised a technical visit to the captioned site under the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) contract no NE/2016/05 on 27 July 2019.

The representative of AECOM Asia Co Ltd (AECOM) briefly introduced the background of the project and the scope of works. These included the construction of a footbridge, a lift tower and a bus interchange at the Tseung Kwan O Road connection between Jordan Valley Park at Choi Wing Road Park, slope improvement works and natural terrain hazard mitigation works at Tiu Keng Leng.

As under the Anderson Road Quarry site contract, it was expected that around 30,000 citizens would move into this area. To help ensure smooth connections to the area and meet public expectations for safety, many facilities needed to be upgraded.

Socketed H piles were used for most of the foundations for the escalators and footbridges. While soil nails were provided for the slope improvement works in consideration of the connectivity needs and the safe environment that was required, natural terrain hazard mitigation measures were also applied, including baffles for reducing the impact of falling boulders and flexible barriers to resist the 3,000 kJ of impulsive forces from the falling soil and boulders.

On behalf of the GE Division, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the CEDD for granting permission and the Consultant, AECOM, for arranging this visit.
